What are the advantages of franchisingThe advantages of franchising are many. Franchising can be viewed in much the same way.  You have the skills and talent needed to succeed, but you need someone to give you the proper instructions.

The bottom line — someone has already spent the time and effort to figure out the franchising recipe for success. What you need do is combine the recipe with your skills, talent and hard work to achieve success.

How to Select a Franchise?

Facebook Twitter Email Print Friendly

How to Select a FranchiseFinding a good franchise is a little like buying eggs at your local store or market. All of them may look okay but how do you know they are? Are they fresh? How long have they been there? Some may hide inedible contents or reward you with double yolks. You’re hungry but you either need to avoid mystery eggs — or move on to eggs you know more about. How to select a franchise is, in a way, a similar situation.

Reliable Information

You may be just as hungry for a way to get your life on an independent financial track as you are for breakfast. If breakfast is bad, throw it out and get another. If the franchise is bad, you may be throwing out a life savings, borrowed money or a second mortgage. Information is the key feature in how to select a franchise. Even if it is surrounded by a shell of mystery, viewed through the light of knowledge, more can always be seen: Continue reading

Facebook Twitter Email Print Friendly

The Advantages and Disadvantages of a Franchise BusinessLife can often be a trade off. Take a vehicle for instance. Getting good gas mileage with a small car is a plus. But there are times when keeping up with a herd of SUV’s can be a challenge. That tiny, perfume-like spray of fuel going into your engine can cause problems as you try to blend into traffic off a freeway ramp. Accelerating quickly  from a traffic light can also be a problem. The driver behind you may be seen in the rear view mirror moving his or her mouth. They probably aren’t singing along with Lady Gaga — especially if they seem in a hurry. There are advantages and disadvantages of a franchise business that can often make an owner’s mouth move in the same manner. Continue reading

Looking at Franchises to Buy? Know Your Own Limitations First.

Franchises to BuyClint Eastwood movies have usually produced memorable lines. The 1973 film, Magnum Force, was no exception. In a scene where the character, Harry Callahan (aka, Dirty Harry), is verbally sparring with his boss, Lieutenant Briggs, the lieutenant states that he, unlike Harry, has never taken his gun out of its holster. Harry fires back with: “You’re a good man, lieutenant. A good man always knows his limitations.” An intelligent prospect looking at franchises to buy also has to know about limitations — of themselves and the franchise.

Franchise Limitations

There are vast numbers of franchises and they are not created equal. Even though buying a canadian franchise may seem like a “canned soup” approach to owning a business, it is not.  The business models of different franchise companies can be very different and the potential profit a franchisee can make can also vary greatly. The requirements a franchisor places on its franchise owners can impact their success. Continue reading

Creating a Franchise Business Plan

Facebook Twitter Email Print Friendly

Franchise Business PlanGetting into a franchise business is, for the most part, just like getting into any other business. The great thing about a franchise is that it’s proven; you know it works. Other businesses starting from scratch can be more of a gamble. In a franchise business, you can examine the history of the company, determine how well it has worked in some areas and not so well in others. You can research failures and generally get to the root cause of why a franchisee may have failed.

When opening up an independent business, you train yourself; making and learning mistakes as you move along. On the other hand, a franchisor typically provides training. When training yourself, you may find that you have either a poor teacher or a poor student — either of which can result in the business failing. To increase the chance of success, a business plan is a common tool to develop an outline of how the business, franchise or independent, will move toward success. Continue reading
